Floodlight hires Deneen Wiske as Deputy Executive Director

Floodlight is proud to announce that Deneen Wiske will serve as our deputy executive director.

Wiske joins the leadership team as a senior strategic partner, where she will guide the organization’s growth, oversee core operations and strengthen the systems that sustain Floodlight’s investigative reporting.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Deneen, a seasoned nonprofit leader, to the Floodlight team, as we continue to ensure our long-term sustainability and to grow and deepen our reach,” said Floodlight Founder and Executive Director Emily Holden.

Wiske brings with her more than two decades of nonprofit leadership experience. Prior to joining our team, she served as the executive director of Auricle Productions, the nonprofit environmental journalism organization that is home to the Peabody Award-winning Threshold podcast.

Wiske began her career in science before shifting her focus to the nonprofit sector. She holds a BS in biology and chemistry from Old Dominion University and was a research biologist at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. She also holds a graduate certificate from William & Mary.

Her commitment to addressing environmental challenges led her to found The Kairos Project, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to creating programs that address social and ecological disconnection.

Amy Martin, founder and executive producer of Threshold, said Wiske’s work demonstrates her ability to “show up with both your full intellectual capacity and your heart.”

Wiske lives with her family in the Great Lakes region in Door County, Wis., where she remains deeply involved in environmental conservation. She serves on the boards of the Climate Change Coalition of Door County, the Door County Land Trust and The Ridges Sanctuary.

In her new role, Wiske will work closely with Floodlight’s executive director, editor-in-chief and audience and development director to ensure our high-impact investigations reach the audiences who need them most. She joins an award-winning editorial team that includes two investigative reporters and an investigative producer.
